Download- Wasteland (2010) Hau Ruck

The album cover tells you all you need to know about this hazy experience. I’m not going to try to fit it into a genre.
This is a man sitting in a bar, contemplating over his failures…
and you’re sadly obliged to listen to him!

I’m just a failed out actor in the story that is your life, so I sing a song to the ocean that keeps us so far apart

Death in June- Nada

Download- Nada (1985) NER

Death in June, Douglas Pierce, creator of neofolk!

This album is a wild and beautiful blend of neofolk and industrial music. Death in June’s influence on the industrial and the post-rock scene should never be underestimated. Nada is Di6 third album and it was released on Douglas own label ”NER”. As i percieve it this is sort of an experiment in wich the band strived towards their later more acoustic sound.. anyway it’s probably my contemporary Di6 fav.

Current 93- Imperium

DOWNLOAD- Imperium (1987) Maldoror

This is one of my favourite Current 93 albums, probably the one that had the most longlasting impact on me. This album was a turning point for Current 93 since the lyrics by David Tibet are a so much in focus here, after this release they also started leaning more towards a folky sound. In other words this is the album when the band started defining the sound they’re most known for.

Still, this is mostly an industrial/ambient release with some post-punk influences. Tibet’s poetical lyrics are the real highlight of the album. Lyrics dealing with the life cycle of civilizations, heavy critique against the materialism of todays western world and most of all the fear of death wich i guess everyone has to deal with at some point in their life. The album is litteraly packed with biblical references.

Locust
When I was a Child in the belly of my mother and
When I was a Child in the palace of my father

Supposedly, Tibet was ill and possibly near death when this album was recorded. Luckily for the world he endured and kept on making music.

The album consists of two parts as I perceive it. The first part is made up of four tracks named Imperium 1-4 and the second part of four tracks named Be, Locust, Or, Alone. On my copy of Imperium there’s also a tracks called Time Stands Still placed in between the two parts.

This is not an easy album to tackle but it’s really rewarding in the end.

Of the Wand and the Moon- Nighttime Nightrhymes

DOWNLOAD- Nighttime Nightrhymes

A cozy slab of neofolk from danish Kim Larsen’s project Of the Wand and the Moon. The band is one of the leading names within the neofolk scene and has collaborated with other bands like Sonne Hagal and Forseti.

Nighttime Nightrhymes (1999) is the first release by OTWATM. Having listened a lot to his later material i think it’s noticable that he has developed as a musican over the years adding more elements to the music. This is still a good album though. Kim works with a pagan theme, he wants you to worship the sun and dont neglect the summer solstice.

Listen to the Raven Chant.

Acoustic guitar, violin and whispering. I’m probably going to listen to this falling asleep tonight.

In Gowan Ring- The Glinting Spade

DOWNLOAD- The Glinting Spade

This thing was really hard to get my hands on for a reasonable price, I ended up paying quite a bit for it.
-Totaly worth it though-
In Gowan Ring is the ongoing folk project of american Jon Michael going under the pseudonym of B’eirth, the project first saw daylight in the mid-90’s and is associated with the neofolkscene and contemporary folk scene.

The Glinting Spade is a real bard’s tale, imagine Simon and Garfunkel’s song ”Scarborough Fair” then imagine an album with seven songs equally good to Scarborough Fair. That is what you get here, add to that some psychedelic influences in songs such as ”Cipher’s String on the Tree in the Dream of the Queen”.

B’eirth

My favourite track on the album is To Thrum a Glassy Stem.
Left low in sanguine laughter
in a bed the soft of heather
Stashed in the branches breach

This is an album you could listen to at any time. Studying, going for a walk or just relaxing. Brings some peace and comfort to the soul. Any fan of any type of folkmusic should be able to enjoy this release.

Arcana- Inner pale sun

Arcana - Inner Pale Sun

Death in June- But, what ends when the symbols shatter?

Posted in neofolk on 26/04/2011 by co)))ven

Det här var då alltså en av skivorna jag skrev om att jag fått i förra inlägget.

Är man nybörjare i Death in June’s ädla musik så är det den här plattan man ska börja med. Mitten av Death in June’s skapande.

Mitten eran, neofolk. Dagens, en experimentell fortsättning på mitten eran. What ends when the symbols shatter? pikar mitten eran.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvFD7urcHZE Titelspåret! Lyssna!

Tracklist

  1. ”Death Is the Martyr of Beauty” – 3:50
  2. ”He’s Disabled” – 4:08
  3. ”The Mourner’s Bench” – 2:31
  4. ”Because of Him” – 3:46
  5. ”Daedalus Rising” – 4:52
  6. ”Little Black Angel” – 4:18
  7. ”The Golden Wedding of Sorrow” – 3:36
  8. ”The Giddy Edge of Light” – 5:07
  9. ”Ku Ku Ku” – 1:52
  10. ”This Is Not Paradise” – 5:27
  11. ”Hollows of Devotion” – 3:29
  12. ”But, What Ends When the Symbols Shatter?” – 3:15

Den här skivan betyder en hel del för mig och jag är säker på att den kommer hänga med mig länge. Den får därför 9/10 ormbunkar.
