Reverend Bizarre- Crush the Insects

DOWNLOAD- Crush the Insects (2005) Spikefarm Records

Finish doomsters Reverend Bizarre made metal. I mean real metal, no bullshit.
My hometown is flooded with metalcore kids and walking past those little pricks, this is the record I think about smacking into their faces! Showing them how it’s supposed to sound.

Mid-temped upbeat and slow to the extreme riffing is combined throughout the album. Frontman Sir Albert Witchfinder provides vocals so horrible they become good, with a pretended english accent.
Witches are dancing to the insane beat of a ritual drum
The first three songs of the album are kind of fast and catchy for a doom metal album, but after that it’s the same old snail paced Reverend.

Not getting laid, not getting paid, just makin’ music.

Bain Wolfkind. He’s cool, Music for Lovers and Gangsters is his coolest album.
Here’s a cool description his cool friend wrote about him-

BAIN WOLFKIND IS THE NOM DE GUERRE FOR AUSTRALIA’S LOUNGE LOTHARIO; AN ELVIS MAN, A LADIES’ MAN, A JAZZMAN, AND A MAN’S MAN, BAIN WOLFKIND CREATES TUNES FOR THE BACK ROOMS, THE DARKENED CORNERS, THE CRIME-RIDDEN STREETS OF AN IMAGINED FUTURE CITY WHERE THE MEN METE OUT THEIR OWN BRANDS OF PERSONAL JUSTICE AND THE LADIES ARE WILLING TO GIVE UP THE GOODS FOR NOTHING MORE THAN A DEATHLY-DRY MARTINI AND A LITTLE SWEET-TALK.

I’m Bad, Baby!

The Movies. Lucifer Rising by Kenneth Anger

DOWNLOAD- Lucifer Rising by Kenneth Anger (1973)

It’s not only the music that made the 70’s great, the movies were awesome to! oh… The French Connection, Soylent Green and Rosmary’s Baby are some of my favourites. This however is something a bit different.

Kenneth Anger ‘s Lucifer Rising is definitely my favourite artfilm of this era. The movie shows occult rituals and ceremonies taking place in various historically magick spots at different locations around the globe. We get to see the pyramids in Egypt, the Stonehenge and several other places I dont know the name of. Egyptian mythology is blended up with some sort of diabolical aesthetic. All throughout the film there’s a strange ambient soundtrack that really adds to the visual experience. Amongst the cast you will find Jimmy Page, Marianne Faithful and Mick Jagger’s brother.

I love everything about this movie. The theme, the costumes and environments depicted is a real psychedelic eye-candy.

Some pics!

Blood Ceremony- Living With the Ancients

DOWNLOAD- Living With the Ancients (2011) Rise Above

The great god Pan approves of this release and blows his pipe in salute to Blood Ceremony‘s latest output.

Finaly I got this album after three weeks of eager waiting. Even though I’ve just had the time to listen to it a couple of times I’m pretty sure it tops it’s predecessor! I read an interview with Blood Ceremony in Terrorizer magazine yesterday and they themselves state that they were more certain of what they wanted to achive with this release.
To my ears it sounds like singer Alia O’Brien’s vocals have matured, or at least taken on a darker tone, making her vocals sound more powerful. I also think the guitar riffs are knockin a bit more on Living With the Ancients compared to the first album. Guitarist Sean Kennedy knows when to punch the heavy out of the guitar and when to let the softer jazzy stuff kick in, creds to him for that.

Though fans of their first album wont be dissapointed, it’s still the same pagan flute-infested doomfest topped with a hammond organ.

The Great God Pan
Song of the woodlands
Pan Pipes are crying reeds
His maddened tune will lift the autumn leaves
We see the horned-one
We see his shape assume
The form of laughing wines & sandalwood fumes

When listening to Blood Ceremony it’s hard not to think about what inspires them!
It came as no surprise to me when i read that the main inspiration comes from 70’s Hammer horror movies, novels by Edgar Allan Poe and H.P Lovecraft etc. Alia O’Brien recently graduated with a degree in ethnomusichology, after studying ritualistic music as a project she states that she tries to bring the feeling of that into Blood Ceremony. I think she is doing a great job.

Now download the album, or better get yourself a cd or vinyl copy.

Witchcraft- The Alchemist

DOWNLOAD- The Alchemist (2007) released on Rise Above

About time I wrote a post about Witchcraft, after all they are one of my favourite bands and in my opinion the best musical output that my bullshit hometown has come up with . My friend walked past Magnus Pelander, singer and guitarist in Witchcraft, the other day and he had cut off his long hair. That made me a little sad to hear.  Well… hopefully his singing and guitarplaying wont be affected by it. Time will tell. I hope they will conjure a fourth album soon, it’s about time.

The Alchemist however is fucken awesome and you should stop listening to whatever you might find worthy of your time if you haven’t heard it yet. As on previous releases they are walking the thin line beetwen doom, stoner and hardrock. The doom riffs brought back from the 70’s are still the backbone in the music. There’s some diffrences though.  I think all Witchcrafts releases are analouge recordings, though this one has a much cleaner production than the previous two.  There’s also a lot of instrumental mainly acoustic parts incorporated in many of the songs on The Alchemist. I liked the track Schyssta Lögner on the first selftitled album because it featured lyrics in swedish. They do this on The Alchemist as well in the song Leva.

I think I have the japanese cd edition of The Alchemist , it features a cover on Sweet Honey Pie as a bonustrack.

… Anyway Bobby Liebling, Rocky Erickson and Toni Iommi are all clapping their hands and so should you.

Well whats there to say that hasn’t been said before…
This is the purest form of death metal.
Swedish Death Metal! Swedish buzzsaw evool!
This was the beginning of something great that put my homecountry on the (deathmetal)map and inspired so many bands to come.

Just wanted to point that out. I guess I was born 10 years to late to experience the hole thing, But Life Goes On.

Hats off !
